Why ElevenLabs?

In today’s fast-changing production landscape, sound design is no longer just a finishing touch - it’s part of how stories are built, tested, and shared from the very start.

AI tools like ElevenLabs are reshaping that process, making professional-quality narration, sound effects, and music accessible to independent filmmakers. What once required studio time and budgets can now be explored from your laptop - quickly, ethically, and creatively.

This class introduces you to practical ways to use ElevenLabs to bring your documentaries to life through sound. You’ll see how to create convincing voiceovers, craft atmospheres, and guide music that supports your story’s emotional arc - whether for polished delivery or as placeholders during rough cuts, trailers, and development pitches. We'll also discuss some of the tool’s current limitations, helping you form your own view on how best to use it.

The same techniques apply beyond feature docs - to shorts, sizzle reels, trailers, social videos, educational projects, …and any project where sound plays a key storytelling role.

This class is for filmmakers who want to experiment with AI audio in a practical, responsible way.
