Hank directed SHAKESPEARE BEHIND BARS which had a theatrical run of over 25 U.S. cities and won 11 awards on the festival circuit.
His latest award-winning film made with Jilann Spitzmiller, STILL DREAMING, premiered on PBS in April 2018 and is an inspiring film about aging and the creative process.
Hank also co-produced, directed and edited HOMELAND, a film about four families on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, as well as CIRCLE OF STORIES, a cutting edge multi-media project that brings to life the vibrant art of Native American storytelling, both for PBS.
Hank has twice been a Sundance Institute Fellow, and also was a writer for two seasons of the popular Discovery documentary series, MEDICAL DIARY.
He has won ITVS funding three times and also has been awarded grants from many other prestigious sources including the Sundance Documentary Fund and the Soros Open Society Institute.
He was a professor of film production for over 14 years at schools including USC, College of Santa Fe and Santa Fe University of Art and Design. He is currently teaching the Documentary Grant Writing Masterclass here at Desktop Documentaries (part of the Documentary Proposal Template Pack).
He is a master storyteller who enjoys the unique challenges of documentary and has been mentoring filmmakers for more than 15 years.
